Randy Johnson Biography Author: Larry Stone
Age Level: 09-12
March 1999 · Paperback

One of the hardest throwing pitchers in the Major Leagues, and, at 6'10" the tallest, the towering figure of Randy Johnson on the mound is an imposing sight which strikes fear into the hearts of even the most determined opposing batters.

American League hitters breathed a collective sigh of relief when the hard throwing left-hander was traded from the Seattle Mariners to the National League's Houston Astros in 1998.

Perhaps the most amazing thing about this pitcher is his consistency in recording strike-outs. He is one of only four pitchers to lead the league for four consecutive seasons in strike-outs, and with over 2,200 of them, he has averaged more than one per inning for every inning he has pitched in his major league career. His Cy Young award-winning season in 1995 was one of the most memorable in recent history and with a new team in 1999 his career has been rejuvenated and he shows no signs of slowing down.
